Chinese Chuyao Fic Recs

民国奇探番外：四爷请结账 by 王北洛 A fic with 521 chapters in total. A fic that's basically sci-fi and it has one of my least favourite plot devices - character gets amnesia. It's also a super slow burn, like it takes forever (like more than half of the fic) for Lu Yao and Qiao Chusheng to finally confess their feelings for each other! I got very frustrated by their pinning. Read it if you have the time and the patiences for slow burn. They do get married in this fic. Plus you get to read about Lu Yao being a badass.
民国奇探2：命中就是你 by 德律风 This fic is 300 chapters long but it somehow feels longer than that. It's definitely fantasy and you need to know a bit about Tu'er Shen for it to make sense. Tu'er Shen is a Chinese deity that governs love and sex between homosexual people and he plays a major role in the story. Also the first part of the story takes places in the 1920s, the later half takes place in the modern day and crosses over with several other detective mystery shows. The last few chapters are them getting married.
民国奇探之自深深处 by 苏打味的菲利普 114 chapters long and one of my favourite Chuyao fics on the app. It takes place after the end of the show but Lu Yao & Bai Youning aren't married and Lu Yao comes back after receiving Qiao Chusheng's message. This fic is slow burn down well. It didn't frustrate me by making one or both of the characters emotionally dense. They both realize early on in the story that they like the other man and then during the middle of the story they realized that their love is reciprocated and it's lovely. Plus I love their interactions in this fic. The cases at the end feels a bit rushed but it should affect your overall enjoyment of the story.
民国奇探2：假结婚 by 芹菜饺子 151 chapters long. I'm gonna just say the reason I love this fic is because of the last two parts. So in the show the top eight martial artists in Shanghai was mentioned in passing because Qiao Chusheng is one of them. So the author of this fic decided to flesh out of the other top martial artists into Qiao Chusheng's friend who just returned to Shanghai and it honestly the best character in this fic. Also Qiao Chusheng & Lu Yao's get fake married in the second last part and you just have to read to find out why.

民国奇探：乔探长的财迷小娇妻 by 糖酥包子 (WIP) It's a long fic, the beginning follows the show exactly expect Lu Yao and Qiao Chusheng gets together pretty fast. You can basically skim a lot of chapters because it's basically just retelling the cases from the show. Although the part I don't like the most is that the author simply grafted a lot of Bai Youning's scenes with Lu Yao onto Qiao Chusheng, making it a very a jarring read at times because Qiao Chusheng is completely out of character for those scenes but I'm currently enjoying it since they left canon behind and had them move to London.
爱四爷，民国奇探 by 余生是楚生 (WIP) This fic is hard to explain. It's not even that much of a Chuyao fic. It's a weird meta Zhang Yunlong (Qiao Chusheng's actor) appreciation fic with the characters from the show providing commentary. I read it mostly for the photos of Zhang Yunlong and Hu Yitian.

【生垚】火车站碎尸案 by 898989 It's about a murder case that happens on a train. I won't say anything else about it since it'll ruin the mystery.
【垚生】《民国有八卦》 by 9pears It's a hilarious fic in which Lu Yao pisses off a scholar and said scholar publishes a story that heavily implies that Lu Yao & Qiao Chusheng are sleeping together. Which causes that classic plot of 'everyone thinks we are a couple but we are not' but by the end they get together anyway.
【垚生】《你好，穿越了解一下》 by 9pears One day Zhang Yunlong and Qiao Chusheng's souls switch bodies with each other. It's variation on time travel. I enjoy Zhang Yunlong's interactions with Lu Yao and Qiao Chusheng's interactions with Hu Yitian. Plus you get to see Hu Yitian and Zhang Yunlong try their best to make Lu Yao and Qiao Chusheng into a couple.
【垚生】《追杀》 by 9pears Lu Yao goes missing and Qiao Chusheng gets accused of murdering him. I don't wanna spoil it but I'll just say that Qiao Chusheng & Lu Yao are a couple from the beginning & Lu Yao is alive.
【垚生】《恶人》 by 9pears A sort of prequel to 追杀, it's mostly smut.
Lofter
重新爱你 by sunnyiho Canon divergence fic with Lu Yao loosing his memories of Shanghai after getting shot and returning home with his sister. I don't like amnesia fics but this fic's tone is light enough to keep me reading. Plus it's only 7 chapters long. Qiao Chusheng meets Lu Yao again and Lu Yao gets his memories back and goes on with his relationship with Qiao Chusheng.
untitled fic by 紫蓝安平 And I really do mean untitled since the first 30 or so chapters of the fic isn't even properly numbered. The author is rewriting show canon with Chuyao being a thing and plenty of Qiao Chusheng whump. Worth a read if you can navigate the very untitled nature of their fics.
吞金兽 by 虞尘 The most popular Chuyao fic on Lofter. It's a one-shot that's cute & sweet.
堔州 by CJ.HEAZR (WIP) A modern AU with police captain Qiao Chusheng and consultant Lu Yao. It's a slow burn that puts solving cases first.
我老公混黑的 by 苏亦潇 A very sweet fic about Qiao Chusheng and Lu Yao's married life. For when you need some fluff and when you get tired of reading slow burns.
我和乔探长同居的那些年 by 一瓶怡宝 A mostly fluff fic about Lu Yao moving in with Qiao Chusheng & running away from his wedding with Qiao Chusheng.
土生土长 by 杨小花觉得阔以 Another fluffy & sweet fic that mostly follows show canon.
【生垚】一则大写加粗的爱情故事 by 随缘|˛˙꒳˙)♡ A fic where Lu Yao meets Qiao Chusheng before he became a police inspector. Content warning for violence.
两世 by 樱色 Okay, so I cried while reading this. It's a fic where Lu Yao dies and his ghost watches the year he spent with Qiao Chusheng. It's got a happy ending though.
风水轮流转 by weepyjester Mr. Bai dies and Qiao Chusheng becomes the next head of the gang. Fic is not nice to Bai Youning.
【生垚】我身体里住着另一个人 by 建个小号浪 QIao Chusheng with multiple personality disorder or dissociative identity disorder. The secondary personality is the one who knows how to fight & flirts with everyone.
【生垚】你怎么还不跟我求婚呀 by 猜菜（高等混子）This fic is hilarious! A drunk Lu Yao demands a sober Qiao Chusheng to propose to him. Lu Miao, Bai Youning and a bunch of other people are witness to this.
【生垚生】威胁 by 学理不学文 Oneshot takes around and after Lu Yao confronted Lu Miao about shooting him and she threatened him with Qiao Chusheng's life.
【生垚】风情馆 by 笙歌华 A two parter, with Lu Yao being the owner of a brothel that one of Qiao Chusheng's men dies in. I also recommend this person's other chuyao fics, I like their writing style.
Misc.
雨夜奔行 by 墨魉XD One of my absolute chuyao fics ever. I love how the author interprets Lu Yao, he is so manipulative in this, it's lovely. Read for Lu Yao manipulative things (and cheating on Bai Youning with Qiao Chusheng) so he can grant Qiao Chusheng freedom.
民国奇探剧情重构 by 李浮白 (WIP) A rewrite of the show by A1012242003 (AO3). I really do like her writing style.

The Holes Will Still Remain by DoWhatUWant It's written in this very detached style that I like. It's from Qiao Chusheng's POV and goes into his backstory and describes his possessiveness over things he loves.
